Evidence reviewed

Regional standards

The Chinese Pharmacopoeia is a central reference for medicinal quality requirements in China. Current-edition information, public historical references and other standards are identified separately below.

This page covers major systems for which public evidence has been found; it is not an exhaustive global register. Consult the current authorized text, effective dates and supplements applicable to your destination market.

Ginkgo leaf, refined quantified extract, supplement ingredients and finished medicines have different definitions. Matching numbers do not establish equivalent methods, manufacturing requirements or pharmacopoeial compliance. Unverified requirements are not entered as zero.

Ginkgo leaf extract for health foodsChina · Ginkgo leaf extractT/CNHFA 001-2019; effective 1 February 2020[2]
  • 总黄酮醇苷Total flavonol glycosides ≥ 24 %
  • 萜类内酯Terpene lactones ≥ 6 %
  • 总银杏酸Total ginkgolic acids ≤ 3 mg/kg
Reporting basis: Not specified

This association standard was issued by the China Nutrition and Health Food Association for extracts used in health foods. The cited edition specifies minimum glycosides of 24%, minimum terpene lactones of 6% and maximum ginkgolic acids of 3 mg/kg, quantified against C17:1. It is distinct from the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Verify the method and calculation basis.

  • 总黄酮醇苷Total flavonol glycosides 22–27 %
  • 萜类内酯Terpene lactones 5.4–12 %
  • 银杏内酯A、B、CGinkgolides A, B and C 2.8–6.2 %
  • 白果内酯Bilobalide 2.6–5.8 %
Reporting basis: Dry basis

The listed assays are calculated on the dried basis in USP's official 2019 public definition. The complete current monograph remains to be verified. These parameters alone do not establish compliance with USP.

  • 白果内酯Bilobalide 2.6–3.2 %
  • 总银杏酸Total ginkgolic acids < 5 mg/kg
Reporting basis: Not specified

The values come from a public European Commission JRC report referring to Ginkgo extract standards. This is not the complete current European Pharmacopoeia text. Compare ginkgolides A + B + C and bilobalide separately. This source describes ginkgolic acids as below 5 mg/kg.

  • 总黄酮醇苷Total flavonol glycosides 22–27 %
  • 萜类内酯Terpene lactones 5–7 %
Reporting basis: Not specified

This monograph guides natural health product licensing and labels and lists constituent ranges for a standardized dry extract. Its 5 ppm limit for ginkgolic acids applies to the finished product; it is not a limit for raw leaf or extract ingredients.

  • 总黄酮醇苷Total flavonol glycosides ≥ 0.5 %
  • 萜类内酯Terpene lactones ≥ 0.1 %
Reporting basis: Dry basis

Leaf assays are on the dried basis and must be compared with leaf data, not extract data. Batch estimates require representative sampling of that batch and a consistent assay basis. The complete current monograph remains to be verified.

  • United Kingdom: BP 2026 includes European Pharmacopoeia texts. The complete current Ginkgo monographs remain to be verified. [12]
  • India: Historical Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission documents confirm leaf, dry extract and tablet monographs. Their current numerical criteria in IP 2026 remain to be verified. [16] [17]
  • Japan: The current JP 19 edition is confirmed. A relevant Ginkgo leaf or extract monograph has not been verified; a 24%/6% standard must not be assumed. [18]
  • Korean Pharmacopoeia: The historical KP X leaf monograph is publicly available. Current extract monographs and the consolidated edition remain to be verified. [15]
  • Brazil: ANVISA provides an unofficial translation of the EMA Ginkgo leaf monograph that refers to the European Pharmacopoeia. The translation does not establish an independent Brazilian quality standard. [19]
  • China · forestry industry: The official register lists LY/T 1699-2023 as a current recommended industry standard. Its complete numerical text remains to be verified. [20]
  • Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, other European countries, Hong Kong (China), Taiwan (China), Southeast Asia and other regions: Verification of all current applicable standards in these regions is incomplete. Add requirements by destination, product category, the pharmacopoeia specified in the contract and local rules. Unverified does not mean that no standards exist.

Parameter conversion and comparison

1% = 10 mg/g = 10,000 mg/kg; 1 ppm by mass = 1 mg/kg. Unit conversion does not change the analyte or make total flavonoids, flavonol glycosides or different lactone groups interchangeable.

Use a value from the corresponding sample and report. Moisture and loss on drying are not automatically interchangeable. If the selected method specifies loss on drying or another correction, confirm the calculation basis with the laboratory first. Percent and ppm here are mass fractions.

Enter measured data to calculate.

Only individual sourced numerical limits are compared mathematically. Full current pharmacopoeial compliance, authenticity, impurities and method applicability require evaluation against the original test report.

Leaf batch assay estimate

Enter received mass, moisture and a representative sample assay for the same constituent in every batch. The estimate weights dry matter, rather than averaging percentages across different batch sizes.

Values are calculated on this page only. They are not uploaded, sent automatically or added to the URL. Keep downloaded records under your control.

Enter measured data to calculate.

The estimate depends on samples representing their batches. It is not a measurement or guarantee of the whole batch, nor recoverable extract yield. Sampling bias, within-batch variation and measurement uncertainty are not automatically included. Calculate different analytes separately.

Dry mass = received mass × (1 − moisture/100); constituent mass = dry mass × dry-basis assay/100; weighted dry-basis assay = total constituent mass ÷ total dry mass × 100.

Testing and sourcing in China

Check the assay in China before arranging bulk procurement

Contact us to arrange ginkgo leaf assay testing in China and discuss a more competitive total sourcing price based on origin, specification and volume.

  1. Define the target

Confirm leaf or extract, destination market, assay targets and reporting basis.

  2. Agree the sampling plan

Arrange sampling, composites and retained samples by lot, bag count and homogeneity, maintaining sample-to-lot traceability.

  3. Arrange testing in China

Coordinate testing against agreed methods. If a CMA/CNAS report is required, check the laboratory and the actual scope covering that test first.

  4. Review the report and estimate batches

Combine the corresponding assay and mass data to estimate constituent mass, checking moisture and atypical results.

  5. Confirm quotation and delivery

Develop a sourcing proposal based on assay, volume, taxes, freight, packaging and delivery terms.

Agree tests, sample quantity, fees, lead time and report use before commissioning. This page is not a test report and does not guarantee untested assays or the lowest price across the market.

Chinese assay terminology

Chinese assay names always remain in Simplified Chinese, accompanied by a translation and explanation. Original standard titles retain the issuing body’s wording.

总黄酮醇苷Total flavonol glycosides
Assay expressed by the method specified in the selected standard. Acid-hydrolysis and direct measurement of native compounds are not automatically equivalent.
萜类内酯Terpene lactones
Check which constituents are included. Total and subgroup limits differ between standards.
银杏内酯A、B、CGinkgolides A, B and C
Sum of three specified ginkgolides; not the entire terpene lactone total including bilobalide.
白果内酯Bilobalide
A specified constituent reported separately from the ginkgolide group; check its individual limit.
总银杏酸Total ginkgolic acids
A restricted impurity target, not a desired active constituent. Check method, homologues included and reference compound.
水分Moisture
Water in the corresponding sample; dry-basis estimates require consistent sampling and reporting definitions.
干燥失重Loss on drying
Mass lost under specified drying conditions may include volatiles other than water, so it cannot simply replace moisture.
